This is a bedroom of a small plantation. The bedroom is a private place where only the family is supposed to go. Also the bed sheets are red which is showing some of the wealth that they have. There would be a room for parents, room for girls, room for boys, and a guest bedroom. The beds in this time had a rope that would support the bed, they would have to tighten this everyday so they did not end up laying on the floor.

This is one of two parlors in this time they would have a parlor for the men and a parlor for the women. In this room they would talk either before or after something like a meal. The parlor compared to something like today would be like a living room. This would be a very formal room that you would want your guests to see.

In this room the dishes and laundry would be done. They would have a fireplace in the back so they could boil water and put it into buckets and wash there things in it. It would not be a room that would be very fancy because nobody would be in there except you and if you have a slave that works for you.

This is a garden that might have been on a small plantation. It isn't anything to fancy and they might have had a garden to walk through or just a plain garden for growing different small plants. Some of the more wealthy people would have had a more formal garden that would be for taking guests outside instead of keeping them in the house.

Tobacco barn(1)

external image Picture%20035.jpg

Tobacco barns would be very important for this time. They would be used to hang the tobacco so it could dry. If they didn't have tobacco barns and grew tobacco they would have the risk of it getting wet and they would lose a lot of money. Tobbaco was a very important product then because it was very expensive and the people that grew it where usually the people who had a nice house and a lot of land.

Field(3)

external image Picture%20159.jpg

Fields where used for everything thatthey had to grow that couldn't have been grown in the garden. If someone was wealthy the would have a slave that would work in the fields for them. In the feilds they would grow mostly tobacco because it was the most expensive crop thatthey new of. Later on in colony life the discovered indigo that became a popular crop also. They would need more than one field especially for tobacco because with tobacco it needs to be transplanted to another field.
